Training Credit

The Request for Training Credit Form is intended for all training activities except OJT which do not require pre-enrollment in the Training Management System (TMS) or through NEFLIN (for example, webinars other than JPL or NEFLIN, free online courses, self-paced tutorials, etc.)

The form serves two purposes:
  1. To allow a supervisor and staff person to discuss and agree upon the work-related purpose of a chosen training activity
  2. To send Training Office the specific information necessary for recording training credit in TMS.
Employees fill out and submits the form after speaking with their supervisors to determine how to describe that purpose on the form.

Work-related Purpose

We want to help people find training which is relevant to their jobs whenever possible.  To support this goal
  • We have loosened the boundaries of what counts as training
  • We ask in return that supervisors take ownership of the judgment about what training is genuinely work-related
  • We rely on supervisors' judgments, but we ask that they help staff word the Work-related Purpose block of the request form.
When a staff person requests approval for training, the supervisor should help decide how this activity will serve the training needs of the his or her team. For example, the training objective might address
  • a goal on the staff person’s learning plan
  • a newly-identified individual learning need
  • an individual career development goal
    • for example, a clerk learning intermediate or advanced Excel
  • the supervisor’s need for someone to learn and share the content of the training
    • for example, learning money management skills in order to teach customers.
Please contact the Training Coordinator if you have questions about this process.
